A power bank burst into flames inside a passenger's backpack on a moving coach in eastern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province on March 10.

Chaos erupted aboard a tourist coach as a power bank suddenly burst into flames inside a passenger's backpack while traveling on a highway.

Within seconds, flames soared high, prompting panicked shouts from passengers.

"Fire!" screamed one passenger as others scrambled to control the blaze. A courageous individual stomped on the backpack to contain the fire while another urged the driver to pull over.

Amidst the chaos and screams, the fire was swiftly extinguished.

According to Mr. Jiang, the bus driver, the incident occurred on the highway from Deqing County to Hangzhou. The power bank, unused and stored in a passenger's backpack, spontaneously combusted, but fortunately, the flames were quickly subdued within approximately 10 seconds.

The bus, carrying over 20 passengers comprising students and parents from the same class, was traveling at around 55.9mph. "I was driving when passengers alerted me to the fire. I promptly pulled over onto the emergency lane," Jiang explained.

Although one child sustained minor singeing to their hair, and some parts of the bus aisle were charred, the situation was manageable.

As the vehicle halted on the emergency lane, prioritising passenger safety and considering the relatively minor nature of the incident, Jiang decided to continue the journey back to Hangzhou.

Upon arrival at their destination, inquiries revealed that the power bank, which had spontaneously ignited, had been in use for several years. The brand was not recalled, and it was stored in the passenger's backpack without being used or dropped.

"Passengers aboard were understanding, given our familiarity. Fortunately, the power bank wasn't stored in the enclosed luggage compartment; otherwise, the fire might not have been detected immediately," Jiang remarked.
