Beacon Rock, WA. Landmark LANDSLIDE CLOSES TRAIL INDEFINITELY

Buy video

Beacon Rock State Park in Skamania County Washington is CLOSED INDEFINITELY due to a landslide. The slide destroyed a large section of trail known as the "switchback" near the top. Beacon Rock is a 772 ft. tall "Basalt Plug" located in the geologically historic Columbia River Gorge. People can hike to the top thanks to a man made trail. At the time of filming, no determination could be given as to when the trail may reopen. Most of the trail remains unstable throughout the winter and the full extent of the situation cannot be evaluated until late spring.
