A tornado touched down in Iowa, sparking siren warnings.

Footage shows the massive twister ripping through Rockwell City on April 16 as a loud siren was sounded to alert residents.

The twister was spotted on the north side of the city, heading towards Manson, and was clearly visible from downtown Rockwell City.

According to the National Weather Service, the funnel lifted and touched down multiple times across Calhoun and Pocahontas counties before dissipating.

While the tornado's rating is still pending, authorities have reported minimal damage despite its proximity to Rockwell City, a town with a population of more than 2,000.

The sheriff's office has confirmed that the only damage reported so far is a few fallen power lines.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant andheed any further weather warnings.

A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground. It forms from thunderstorms, particularly strong-rotating supercell thunderstorms. Warm, moist air rising from the ground meets cooler air from above, causing an unstable atmospheric condition that can spawn tornadoes.
