Mount Marapi in western Indonesia has erupted again. Wind-blown volcanic material fell on surrounding farmland.

Footage taken on 14 January in Sariak Agam, West Sumatra province, shows thick volcanic smoke billowing from the crater at the summit of Mount Marapi.

Rahmat Illahi, a farmer who filmed the eruption, said there were two eruptions on Sunday, morning and afternoon.

"Wind direction caused ash from the eruption of Mount Marapi to fall onto our fields," Rahmat added.

According to Rahmat, the volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Marapi since December 3, 2023 has caused the chili and eggplant yields in his fields to decrease by 50 percent.

Meanwhile, authorities raise the alert status to Level 3, with the eruption danger zone now within a 2.8 mile radius of the crater at the summit of Mount Marapi on 9 January 2024.

Residents in the danger zone were evacuated to safe areas.

The Marapi eruption on December 3, 2023 killed 24 hikers.
