A heartwarming video has emerged of a firefighter rescuing a cat stuck behind a petrol tank in a garage in Montigny-sur-Loing, France.

The footage, shot late last month, shows the moment Benjamin's neighbour called him to rescue a cat stuck in her garage as he is a volunteer firefighter.

He can be seen trying to get the cat to grab onto a rope to pull him up but he has to make a hole in the concrete blocks surrounding the tank to let it escape.

Benjamin's neighbour gave the poor animal bath and fed it before trying to find its owner.

Samedi après midi ma voisine sonne, Benjamin j'ai un chat dans le garage il pleure et je vois rien. En plus tu est sapeurs-pompiers volontaire en astreinte tu devrais venir voir. Ok je vais voir et je tombe sur un chat coincé derrière une cuve de fioulle. Il a du sûrement chuté. Alors j'essaie avec une corde, une planche et je décide donc de casser le bas du mur pour avoir accès plus facilement. Je ne sais pas depuis quand il est la et si il à encore des force pour sortir par lui même. La vidéo est diras davantage. Ma voisine ma remercier en pleurant, le chat ne savant pas le propriétaire est relâché lavé et bien mangé, il reste dans le jardin et nous regarde pour je pense nous remercier.
