A New York City driver is using footage from his newly installed dashcam to try to refute accusations that he caused a crash by running a red light.

The driver was heading through a busy junction in Queens, New York last week when he smashed into a US Border Patrol van, wrecking both vehicles and flipping the van onto its side.

The driver claims border patrol agents immediately rushed to him and accused him of running a red light.

"As I was on the phone with 911, the driver of the van, a big burly guy in plainclothes, came running over to me with his US Border patrol badge exposed, screaming “Didn’t you see the light? Did you not see the light?” The driver told local media.

The dazed driver later checked his dashcam footage which appears to show the light at the junction was green.

"If not for my Dashcam, I would have been made to feel guilty for causing this accident, and my insurance would have found me at fault. With this video, it is clear as day that I was just driving along with the flow of traffic," the driver said.
