A video has emerged from the United States which shows how dangerous road rage incidents can be in a country where gun ownership remains common.

In the clip, which was filmed on May 24 in Delaware Township, New Jersey, two male drivers have a heated argument after nearly crashing into each other.

With a pistol in view on the arm rest of his vehicle, the older driver furiously rants at the younger man, blaming him for the near-miss.

The younger man, who filmed the video, is himself very angry, accusing the older man of following him.

When the older man turns away for a moment, the filmer pulls out his own gun (at around 2:19 on the clip) and suddenly the tone changes completely. The older man apologises and appears to agree that following the younger man with a pistol in view was "stupid" and could have easily led to a gun fight.

The two men then go on their way, both appearing to acknowledge that they've avoided a situation which could have rapidly escalated into violence.

"The moral of this story is to be easy and don't let that road rage get the best of you putting yourself and others in situations you ain't ready for!!" The filmer wrote online.
