Buy video

Ski patrol at Fernie Alpine Resort, in Fernie, BC, use the Avalauncher to help them control avalanches in the area, to keep the mountain safe for skiers and riders.

It is a large nitrogen powered cannon that fires 1kg explosive projectiles that explode on impact, setting off an avalanche in a controlled manner, so as to prevent wild and rogue avalanches during the ski day.

Many safety precautions are taken, and no one has been hurt in a long time thanks to this exciting piece of technology.
