Motorists 'flee Saddleworth Moor fire' as blaze nears homes
This is the moment in the early hours of Wednesday that motorists in Greater Manchester were forced to turn around to flee from the ferocious moors fire at Saddleworth, according to an eyewitness.
In night shots filmed by independent local media SaddleworthReports (seen from 36 secs into this edit), cars can be seen driving away from the fire, which can be seen in the distance.
One vehicle is parked and has its hazard lights flashing.
Mobile phone masts and properties were threatened by the fast-moving blaze, the filmer said.
The fire has now been declared a major incident.
Day shots filmed on Tuesday show the flames raging and a huge plume of thick smoke filling the sky.
