At more than 283,000 acres, the Mendocino Complex fire is now the largest fire in California history, authorities reported on August 6.

The Mendocino Complex fire consists of the Ranch Fire and River Fire in Mendocino and Lake Counties, and has been burning for about two weeks. In this time, tens of thousands of evacuations have been forced and about 150 structures destroyed.

This video was filmed at around 4:30 pm on August 6, and shows a helicopter over the Ranch fire.

The Mendocino Complex fire surpasses the Thomas Fire late last year, which burned through more than 281,000 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
