Video captures the moment a rare Mauritius pink pigeon chick hatched
This is the extraordinary moment the hatching of a rare Mauritius pink pigeon chick was caught on video.
The footage has been released by a British zoo whose senior bird keeper is currently on a secondment to help conservationists bolster the population of the endangered bird.
Tom Tooley, of Paignton Zoo in Devon, is involved in training local staff on the tropical island and is now helping to hand rear the chicks who need feeding every three hours.
He said: “The first feed is at 6am, then every three hours ‘til 6pm, or even 9pm.
