Explosion blasts Tappan Zee Bridge into Hudson River
The old Tappan Zee Bridge on the Hudson River, some 25 miles north of Midtown Manhattan, New York, was demolished in a controlled explosion on Tuesday.
The bridge had been standing for more than 60 years before the explosion blasted it into the river. Its remains will be recovered by marine salvage teams in the approaching weeks.
The demolition was originally set for Saturnday but strong winds prevented it from occurring.
