A Palestinian veterinarian took off the claws of a lioness aged 14 months in which this happens for the first time in Gaza. That was in a zoo in Rafah, in the south of Gaza Strip..

The veterinarian , Fayiz Haddad who is 59 years and works in Palestinian ministry of agriculture, used simple tools to implement his task in which there was no available tools that are necessary for this surgery especially that this surgery did not happen before in Gaza Strip. The Vetertinarian made this surgery in 29 th January 2019.

The reason of making this surgery is that the owner of the zoo called the Vetertinarian telling him that there is a pet lioness in the zoo that hurts who plays with her using her claws. So, it is needed to cut off the front claws of the lioness because it represents danger on him and everyone who get close to her even he knows than there are no possibilites for making this surgery.

The veterinarian has gone to the zoo to today to see the lioness and to make sure the surgery is successful. He removed the sutures and the cover and took care of the lioness inside the zoo. Rafah zoo is considered as the only one in the city which was affected by the Israeli shoveling that led to the escape of many animals and the death of others.

First interview/ Dr. Fayiz Haddad, a vetertinarian.
