Parts of Cumbria have been hit by severe weather this week, leaving roads difficult to traverse and causing flood alerts for a number of rivers in the region. The video footage, shot around the Thirlmere reservoir, shows swollen rivers, flooding and the filmer driving through deep water.

Driving and walking conditions were a little tricky today in parts of Cumbria as torrential rain hit the region. The Environment Agency put several of the major rivers in the region on Flood Alert at lunchtime, including the Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Derwent. With rain not expected to ease until early evening, more paths and roads are expected to flood.

It's good news for United Utilities as the recent wet weather will top up the reservior which feeds the 96 mile-long Thirlmere Aqueduct providing water to the Manchester area..
