Dog kicked in Face on Manhattan Street, perp admits it, is released by Police, Alec Baldwin Tells Man He's going to Jail

On Thursday at around 6pm in front of Karvouna restaurant in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Josh Kuipers was walking with with his 7 lb. Pomeranian, Meeka, down Bowery Street towards Soho, when the unthinkable happened. Kuipers says that as he was walking, a man, identified as Jerrod Ford “came up out of nowhere,” reared back, and kicked his dog in the face, “like a football.” Meeka, who just turned 7 years old this week was whimpering and crying, bleeding from her mouth and had difficulty walking afterwards, he said.

According to witnesses at the scene, the crowd started gathering and a number of passers-by immediately rushed after the perpetrator. He was quickly apprehended by good samaritans outside of 229 Chrystie Street. They held down Ford on the ground until the police arrived.

Kuipers wrote on Reddit about the incident: “I was walking down the street like any other day walking my dog after work and this man came up and kicked my dog as hard as he could in the face. She’s a 7lb Pomeranian and you can imagine what that would do to a dog. A group of people chased him down and we held him until the cops came. He wasn’t arrested because he “caused no major injury to the dog” but we don’t know that yet.” Josh said. The dog was “Crying and yelping like crazy, she was bleeding from the mouth, the cops hardly looked at the dog. I took her to the vet, and she confirmed the cuts on her mouth and her teeth being knocked loose.”

Lower East Side Animal Hospital’s patient chart for Meeka following the incident stated: “Dental calculus, Loose/Missing Teeth, Trauma. Minimal excoriations around lower lip and lateral sides, scant blood on lower lip.”

According to NYC.gov, “New York State law defines animal cruelty as a situation where a person causes unjustified harm, pain, or suffering to an animal…The New York Police Department investigates reports of animal abuse or neglect.”

Kuipers also mentioned that while waiting on the police, Alec Baldwin pulled up in his car and came over. ”He was very concerned with what was going on … he visibly gets angry and upset and he tells him you messed up man, you are going to jail… He was even petting Meeka and being really nice and kind to everybody and trying to do his best to help out with the situation.”
Scootercaster reached out to Mr. Baldwin’s publicist for comment, but have not heard back at the time of this article’s publication.

The assault on Meeka was captured on video by a security camera at Karvouna restaurant but so far they have been unwilling to release it. In the video you see Meeka walking on the ground and then lifted into the air by the kick. Video shows her scrambling in distress as Kuipers tries to pick her up, then Ford, who was wearing a green shirt, turns around to look at the dog.

Ford has reportedly admitted to police that he kicked the dog, according to Kuipers.
