A jovial crowd clad in red and white gathered under clear blue skies Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto to mark Canada’s 152nd birthday in the nation’s largest city today (July 1) — one of many celebrations being held across the country.

As the afternoon sun beat down, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told media that while it’s important to celebrate the nation’s victories on Canada Day, citizens must also pledge to stay on the right track.

“Canadians have so much to be proud of this year, and I’m not just talking about the Raptors,” Trudeau said. “…But we can’t forget that Canada did not happen by accident and won’t continue without effort and hard work. We can and we must continue to make our country even better.”
