Footage has emerged from inside Hong Kong’s Legislative Council, two days after protesters broke into the parliamentary building, smashing metal shutters and breaking glass.
Video captured today (July 3) shows obscene graffiti and defaced portraits of lawmakers, as well as damage to property.
But protesters stopped short of damaging any materials in the library - graffiti shows a sign saying “Don’t damage the book!” and priceless works of art such as vases kept in glass cabinets.
British Prime Minister Theresa May said in Parliament on Wednesday that Beijing must respect the rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong. She added that she had been in touch with China’s government about the situation in the former British colony.
