Man arrested for painting swastikas on Soviet War Memorial in Berlin
A man was arrested after defacing a war memorial dedicated to fallen Soviet soldiers in Berlin by painting swastikas on the statues.
The man, believed to be 37, can be seen daubing several red swastikas on statues at the Treptower Memorial Park on October 6.
Some tourists confronted the man who threatened them.
The filmer commented: "I heard the guy screaming he was 37-years-old and that he was just doing art.
"It took half an hour for the police to arrive and arrest him.
"He was also throwing bananas to the statues. It seemed like he was waiting to get arrested. "
This took place the day after a small demonstration by Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident (PEGIDA), a radical right-wing German group.
Drawing or presenting swastikas or other Nazi iconography is illegal in Germany, and the man was reported to the police.
