President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, First Lady Olena Zelenska, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney joined the tribute at the Memorial Wall of Fallen Defenders of Ukraine.
Wreaths and flowers were laid in remembrance of the victims of war, underscoring the human cost of the conflict as Ukraine observes its fourth Independence Day since the start of the Russian war.
Ukraine's Independence Day is celebrated annually on Aug. 24 and marks the day when the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the country's Declaration of Independence.
