Longest Street Dining Table Set Up Ever Probably in the World
Sarawak's (Borneo) Longest Street Party by the community for the community in aid of communities in need.
The party is a joint effort of operators of businesses along Jalan Padungan, where the entire stretch of the road is to be closed to make way for the longest dining table ever to be set up in the city.
The Padungan Street Party is expecting 2000 diners being served with the best of Padungan’s cuisine, with entertainment comprising music and dance.
Tickets to the Padungan Street Party are RM100 per entry which includes dining and entertainment.
The event is being organised in conjunction with What About Kuching (WAK2019) festival.
The four organisers are part of the committee of Project New Beginnings, which aims to raise awareness on longhouse fire tragedies in the state.
Over the past month, the committee undertook a donation drive for the rebuilding of five longhouses in Sarawak’s highland areas which were burnt down between 2000 and this year.
The longhouses are Long Palai in Telang Usan, Long Peluan in Ulu Baram, Long Seridan in Ulu Tutoh, Long Tuyut in Ulu Lapok and Bued Main Beruh in Bario.
According to the committee, the rebuilding of the longhouses has not been completed although years have gone by.
“The aim of Project New Beginnings is to help victims of longhouse fires to complete their homes so that they can move in and rebuild their lives, ” they said.
Funds raised from the donation drive as well as the net ticket sales proceeds from the street party will go towards the respective longhouse rebuilding committees.
So far RM150,000 has been collected, mostly donations from the corporate sector and individuals.
