The Mayor of Southwark Councillor Sandra Rhule is leading the wreath-laying procession of dozens of participants to the Act of Remembrance ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, outside the Imperial War Museum, on Remembrance Sunday - 10 November 2019. The ceremony is conducted by Philip Matthews, Chair of the Soviet War Memorial Trust. The participants line up around the Soviet War Memorial - bronze sculpture "Sorrowful", that was unveiled on 9 May 1999. It commemorates the sacrifice of 27 million lives by the citizens and armed forces of the former Soviet Union in its joint struggle with the United Kingdom, the United States and France to defeat fascism during World War II. It is the only monument of its kind in the UK. #CouncillorSandraRhule #MayorOfSouthwark #ActOfRemembrance #RemembranceSunday #10November2019 #SovietWarMemorial #WreathLaying #Southwark #GeraldineMaryHarmsworthPark #London
