A pair of curious grey whales inspect a raft full of people on December 30 off the coast of Orange County, California.

The close encounter shows the whales coming to the surface and edging towards amazed spectators who were leaning over the raft's edge to take a closer look.

A curious pair of friendly Gray Whales decided to explore our small fast raft aboard our recent whale watching touyr in Orange County CA.

This once in a lifetime encounter with a pair of adult Gray Whales is something that is more of a common site about 600 miles south of us in Guerrero Negro, Baja Ca. A spectacular beginning to our Gray Whale season!

This behavior is very rare for these animals, as they usually spend this time of year traveling from their Arctic feeding grounds to Baja Mexico for mating and calving with very little vessel interaction. The gray whale migration can usually be viewed in Southern California from late November into April.

Gray whales have the longest migration of any mammal, traveling 12,000 round trip from their feeding grounds in the Arctic to their calving grounds in Baja Mexico. To witness them behaving in this way at this point in their migration is both wondrous and incredible.
