Storks build precariously sited nest over active train line in the Netherlands

A flight of storks in the Netherlands have built a nest in a precarious position over a running train line near Eindhoven.

Footage from February 16 shows the large nest atop of the railroad's construction as they are seen flying around the area.

The filmer said: "I spotted the nest when I had to wait for a nearby closed railroad crossing.

"I don't know if the nest in future will be removed by the railroad company."

A statement from a wildlife charity in the Netherlands commented: "When a bird is busy building a nest or is already busy breeding, the nest may not be damaged or removed. This is laid down in the Nature Protection Act, article 3.1. If one does, it is a violation of the law that counts as an economic offence.

"Birds and certainly storks do not always choose the safest place to make a nest, but unfortunately you can do nothing about it. By the way, there are more storks that breed in the neighbourhood or at the railway, and not always without success."
