The city of Al-Bab in northern Syria has continued to function despite previously being ravaged by war.

Footage from March 11 shows how life has carried on despite serious damage to infrastructure caused by the Battle of al-Bab, which brought havoc to the area during November 2016 – 23 February 2017.

Lack of maintenance to basic infrastructures such as water, electricity, and roads has caused the area to become dilapidated, with the added pressure of internally displaced persons from the surrounding areas.

The rebel-held city of al-Bab in the northern countryside of Aleppo suffers from extensive damage to its water and power infrastructure, amid lack of maintenance in the networks of water, electricity, and roads. The situation is getting worse with the increasing number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the city, following the military operation in the Idlib countryside.

The large numbers of the uprooted populations have led to severe overcrowding in the city’s war-torn roads due to the military offensive. In 2017, the armed opposition factions, with the Turkish support, managed to expel the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) from the city in a military operation titled “Operation Euphrates Shield.”

ALEPPO — A large number of displaced Syrians arriving from Idlib province and the western and southern Aleppo countrysides have reached the city of al-Bab in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, after escaping the military operation launched by Syrian regime forces and their allied fighters who took over large opposition-held areas. The air and ground bombings of villages and civilian towns in the countrysides of Idlib and Aleppo forced thousands of families to flee in the largest wave of displacement in record time.
The United Nations reported Feb. 21 that about 900,000 people have been displaced due to the fighting in Idlib since December.

Families are forced to sleep in temporary shelters established by the local council in the city, and activists are working to help the displaced cover living expenses until they find housing that suits their financial capabilities.
