Garrison Point Defensive Fort in Sheerness, Kent, UK

Footage of the historic Garrison Point Fort taken on May 21 taken from a boat.

Garrison Point Fort is situated at the end of Garrison Point in the Port of Sheerness in Kent. It was built in the 1860s due to concerns about the risk of a French invasion, although there had been several previous forts on the same site. The fort is strategically positioned at the point where the River Medway and River Thames meet, and remained operational until 1956. The fort is a Grade II listed building and is a rare example of a two-tiered casemated fort - one of only two of that era in the country.

Later on the Medway Ports Authority built a control tower on top, and it was briefly used by the Olau ferry company as part of the access route to their ferries that ran the Sheerness, UK to Vlissingen, Holland route.
