This is a heartwarming moment a family take their elderly pet dog for its evening walk, using a specially modified wheelchair.

The fifteen-year-old Golden Retriever, named Bukbik, has started suffering muscle weakness, loss of nerve sensation and breathlessness.

However, his family are determined that having reached the milestone, more than 105 in dog years, that he should have the mobility needed for his beloved neighbourhood strolls.

Footage shows the frail dog inching his way along the road in Bangkok, central Thailand, on May 31 at 6pm.

Owner Pattira Siripathumrat said they built Bukbik's special chair by hand.

She said: "We have put all of our effort to take care of Bukbik until he takes his last breath. We should love dogs when they old in the same way we adore their cuteness when they are little."

Pattira's husband is seen in the video trying to assist the doggo to move its paws forward.

He says: "Bukbik, you can take a step without being afraid of falling flat, you have your great wheelchair, you can do it, my darling."

Dogs live on average to between 12 years and 13 years old. Only eight per cent of dogs lived beyond 15 years. Natural aging causes nerves to die off and muscles to weaken.
