These were the scenes as Hong Kong police chased protesters who were running from Victoria Park.

Hongkongers have taken to the streets to oppose the sweeping national security law imposed in secrecy by the Central Government in Beijing.

The law states that subversion of the government can be punishable by life imprisonment, amongst other acts.

The footage shows the protesters who are said to be violating the new act running in an attempt to escape the riot police.

On the 1st of July marking the 23rd Anniversary of the Handover from Britain to China. The newly enacted National Security Law carries the new maximum sentence of life imprisonment for anti-government activities

The annual July1 march has been officially banned for the first time in 23 years, leading to current protesters being potentially charged for illegal assembly and for breaking the newly enacted law.

Due to the new maximum sentences upon arrest, protesters are seen desperately fleeing the current protest location in Victoria Park, Hong Kong as the march has been deemed illegal.

Protesters are seen running for their lives to escape being caught for the illegal assembly charge, and violating the national security laws.
