Muslims in North Sumatra, Indonesia queued up without observing social distancing when attending the mosque for Eid al-Adha prayers on July 31.

Attendees used hand sanitisers and thermal scanners upon arrival as a precaution against the COVID-19 outbreak.

Indonesia has suffered over 100 thousand cases of COVID-19 with over five thousand deaths from the virus.

Eid al-Adha, or "Feast of the Sacrifice," is a holiday which honors the prophet Ibrahim, or Abraham, as he is known in the Bible, for his willingness to sacrifice his son on the order of God who was testing his faith .

Meanwhile, people in areas with controlled Covid-19 transmission can hold Eid Al-Adha prayers in mosques, prayer rooms or open spaces. However, reminding health protocols still must be obeyed, such as wearing masks, performing ablutions from home, carrying one's own prayer rug, and keeping a distance.
