Time-lapse footage shows the 'Lake Fire' in Lake Hughes, California, spreading on Wednesday evening (Aug 12).

Residents in the nearby Santa Clarita recorded the clouds of smoke as they rose from the blaze in woodland surrounding the lake in the Angeles National Forest.

The filmer William Sears said: ''This is a a time-lapse of the Lake Fire burning north of Santa Clarita near Lake Hughes shot from my backyard. It represents about 30 minutes or so of actual footage.''
