Giraffes enjoying some treats

Buy video

These giraffes are wild animals that live in a private property used for conservation purposes. They roam around freely all day, and feed themselves and don't depend on humans for anything, however, every once in a while they get some pellets as treats, and they really enjoy it! But being so tall and having such long necks, picking up something from the ground is the simplest task is the world, but after some preparation, they manage to do it.
The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world, reaching up to 6.1 m, and are able to reach speeds of up to 55 Km/h. They are herbivorous, feeding on leaves, flowers, fruits, and shoots of woody plants. They usually inhabit savannahs and woodlands where food plants are available.
The amount of giraffe species is often debated. Until recently, only one species was accepted (Giraffa Camelopardalis), with nine subspecies, however, recent research indicates that there are actually four species and five subspecies of giraffe in Africa. The ones in the video are South African Giraffes (Giraffa giraffa), also known as Cape Giraffes. They have patterns all the way down to their lower legs; the spots are notched, uneven and large; and the "lines" are not as light-colored.
The South African Giraffe can be found in northern South Africa, southern Zimbabwe, southern Botswana, and south-western Mozambique. After local extinctions in several places, they have been reintroduced in many parts of Southern Africa, including in Swaziland. No more than 31,500 individuals are estimated to remain in the wild, and around 45 can be found in zoos around the world.
In 2016, the one species of giraffe was uplisted to Vulnerable to extinction, from Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. The subspecies Kordofan Giraffe and Nubian Giraffe are now listed as Critically Endangered, and the subspecies Reticulated Giraffe as Endangered.
