A dramatic video has emerged of a motorist swerving to avoid a deer after it slipped on an icy road in front of his car.

The footage was captured by driver Jonas Agovic on a dashboard-mounted camera while he was driving along a snowy road in Potok v Črni, Slovenia on Friday.

It shows the animal almost falling over while trying to cross the treacherous road but, fortunately, Agovic spots the hazard and is able to slow down in time.

"I braked hard when I thought I saw something on the road,” Agovic later wrote online.

“There were two small deer, one of which fell due to icy road. My car swerved a bit, and when I realised that everything went better than expected, I released the brakes because the car behind would have rear-ended me."
