This river near Kozhikode city in the southern Indian state of Kerala has been turned pink as thousands of aquatic plants named forked fanwort bloom.

The river in the village of Avala Pandi has transformed colour as the flowers blossom and sit on the water's surface.

Known locally as mullan payal, the forked fanwort is not native to the Indian state and it is thought that the flower could have a negative impact on the river's ecosystem.

Biologists have suggested the plant could drain the river of its natural resources and oxygen.

A beauty of nature is captured in camera in Kerala’s Kozhikode Avala Pandi near Perambra . “In an Unbelievable sight, Kundoor Moozhi river can be seen fully turned pink , covered with millions of Forked Fanwort flowers, an aquatic plant . These fanwort flowers that have blossomed in its waters. the river has since then been attracting locals and tourists in droves. The flowers belong to the cabomba furcate family and are locally known as mullan payal.Its interesting to note that the plant is not a native of Kerala and it is being said that the plant could have accidentally entered the river, or locals must have dumped the plant in the river.
According to local reports say that the plant could have an adverse effect on the river. Biologists suggest that the plants can drain the river of its natural resources including minerals and oxygen, which in turn, could lead to the death or migration of the rest of the aquatic species in the water body.
