Artist engraves amazing portraits on eggs

An amazing video has emerged from China of an artist engraving spectacularly detailed portraits onto chicken eggs.

In the footage, captured at his home in Chongqing earlier this month, 62-year-old Guan Qingsheng can be seen using a pencil, a knife and a piece of wire to engrave life-like portraits of famous Chinese politicians onto eggs.

According to local news reports, the artist used to work as a designer at a wood production factory and started engraving eggs as a hobby in 2002.

He has since created almost a thousand egg portraits, including engravings of Vladimir Putin, Benjamin Franklin and Joseph Stalin.

While the average time to draw a male portrait is up to four hours, Guan Qingsheng says female portraits require twice as much effort and often don’t come out as well - which remains a bit of a frustration.
