Two orangutans undergo quarantine before being released

The North Sumatra KSDA Hall again received the arrival of 2 (two) individual Sumatran Orangutans (Pongo abelii) from the Central Java KSDA Hall, via Kuala Namu International Airport, Deli Serdang, on Saturday (10/4/2021). The two orangutans, "Asto", a male and "Asih", a female, are between 2-5 years old

The two orangutans were the result of the handover of the community to officers of the Central Java KSDA Office in Bandungan, Semarang Regency, Central Java Province, on (6/4/2021), and were temporarily entrusted to the Agrotourism Conservation Institute PT Sidomuncul in Bergas, Semarang.

"Arriving at Kuala Namu Airport, on Saturday (10/4/2021), exactly 17.30 WIB. The two orangutans were then immediately evacuated to the Orangutan and Other Primate Rehabilitation Center managed by the Orangutan Foundation for Sumatra Lestari-Orangutan Information Center (YOSL-OIC), a collaborative partner of the North Sumatra KSDA Center, in Bukit Mas Besitang, Langkat Regency, to undergo a quarantine process and rehabilitation before being released into their natural habitat, "

“The Sumatran orangutan is one of the wild animals that is critically endangered and protected. According to Article 21 paragraph (2) letter (a) Jo. Article 40 of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Living Natural Resources and their Ecosystems, every person is prohibited from capturing, injuring, killing, keeping, possessing, maintaining, transporting and trading protected animals alive or dead. The criminal sanction is imprisonment for a maximum of 5 (five) years and a fine of Rp. 100,000,000, "
