A man from Cianjur, Indonesia uses baby diapers waste to make pots for plants
This footage was filmed and produced 28 March 2021.
This is Sandi Mulyadi or commonly called Mang Yadi, an environmental activist who processes baby diapers into cute and unique plant pots. He only uses wall paint, cement and baby diapers that have been cleaned and obtained from housewives. He lives in Cicadas Village, Sukamulya Village, Warukondang District, Cianjur, West Java.
Yadi works in his small house, which is used as a hut. First he stirs together white and gray cement and water, then puts a diaper into the mix. After that he puts the diaper on the plastic pot to get the right shape and leaves it under the sun to dry for about one day. After drying process is done, Yadi removes the plastic form and colors the pot.
According to Yadi, this idea emerged after seeing the large number of baby diapers being dumped in the rice fields and scattered on the roadside. Yadi then collaborated with the mothers and dared to pay for cleaned used baby diapers. He pays them 300 rupiah per diaper.
One plant pot is sold for 7000 rupiah and the profits will be returned to the mothers who have collected the baby diaper waste. Yadi hopes that this idea can become an example for people to be able to love the environment and reduce the waste.
