Struggling under the pressure of an unprecedented surged in COVID-19 cases, India's capital New Delhi on Sunday extended its lockdown for another week until May 3. In the city's Defence Colony neighborhood, the normally crowded market was deserted with only three of the over two dozen shops still open. Police barricades and gates erected by community associations have also returned across the city with entire neighborhood's sectioned off from the broader city while internal barriers further prevent movement inside. Though India's March 2020 nationwide lockdown shrunk the country's GDP by a staggering 25 percent, the horrific scenes broadcast on Indian television of a health system in almost total collapse have prompted dozens of trader groups in Delhi to support the latest lockdown measures.

This video shows empty streets, closed store fronts, locked hindu temple, different barricades and gates, and roadside fruit stall being opened.
