Great East Kent Model Boat Race in Minster on Sea, Kent, UK

East Kent Freemasons launched the 'The Great East Kent Boat Race' at 5pm from five Kent beaches this afternoon May 2nd.

Footage shows participants taking part in the race from the beach at Minster on Sea on the Isle of Sheppey.

The race cost £10 to enter, with fees donated to charity.

The winner will be the boat that travels the furthest by Wednesday (May 5). Organisers will using a camera drone to assess how far the models have travelled.

The event is being run responsibly, and boats will be collected from the sea where possible. In the event any craft are lost, they have all been made from wood, cotton and biodegradable paint, so as not to cause any harm to the marine environment.
