A GPS collar tied around a swan's neck has been removed after local citizens reported to the police in central China.

In the video, shot in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan Province on May 24, a mute swan kept pecking a GPS collar that was wrapped around its neck.

Another clip shows rescuers catching the swan and cutting the collar off.

According to reports, local citizens called the police after spotting wildlife volunteers holding the bird for over 40 minutes to tie the GPS collar around its neck.

The local Forestry Bureau said the Wild Bird Observation Society in Henan Province put the collar on the swan for relative activities.

The society has been told off and the collar has been removed from the swan, reports said.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
