US man loses a staggering 15st after ditching 10,000 calorie diet and five portions of takeaways
A man lost a staggering 15st after he ditched his 10,000 calorie a day diet - which included FIVE portions of takeaway for lunch.
David Roden, 29, ate mountains of junk food, hit 28st 8lb (400lb) at just 18-years-old and was the "funny fat person" among his pals.
He'd gorge on an entire box of sugary cereal for breakfast, followed by FIVE Taco Bell helpings at lunch and would eat 20 Reece's peanut butter cups in one sitting.
But when he began to feel depressed and suicidal he took action - and set a goal of losing 2lb a week.
Thanks to a diet overhaul and some light exercise, the weight dropped off, and now with a 220lb (15st 10b) frame, he's entering body building competitions.
The life coaching business owner, from Michigan, USA, said: “Back when I was 400lb, I hated myself - I thought I was such a loser and almost ended my life.
"But the idea of losing 200lb, even if it meant saving my health, felt impossible until I actually started to try - and suddenly it felt like maybe I could do it.
"Once I started to see results I was so motivated to keep going, no matter how hard it got - I stuck to my diet and my workouts and the weight continued to drop.
"Entering myself into a bodybuilding show gave me the focus to hit my goal and eventually I reached the milestone of 200lb down.
"I'm so proud of my hard work and how far I have come but I learnt so much throughout my journey - I went from wanting to end my life to feeling happy and fulfilled, and I'm grateful for that.
"After seeing both sides of the coin, I am using my experience to help others make a change in their own lives and I'm living proof change is possible."
As a teen, David are whatever he wanted - including mountains of pizza, takeaways, fizzy drinks and sweets, and would consume up to 10,000 calories per day.
He said: "I told the doctor I was trying, but I wasn't really trying.
"I was eating at least 20 Reece's peanut butter cups and playing six hours of video games every day."
The "funny fat person" among friends, secretly his mental health was rock bottom and he was becoming diabetic .
"I saw myself as a complete loser," he said.
"There were times where I really wondered 'what's the point?' and I was very close to ending my life - but I never told anyone."
Aged 22 he was ready to change, and read books that suggested small goals, setting his heart on losing 2lb a week.
He started by tracking his food, and eating lower-calorie healthier meals, ditching snacks, and joining a gym.
Six months in he had lost 50lb and burst into tears when he stepped on the scales.
His diet became stricter and he visited the gym twice a day.
And after two years, and down 160lb, he swapped cardio-heavy gym sessions for weight training, and lost another 40lb to reach his target and enter a bodybuilding competition, in November 2019.
He said: "I don't resent my large life, in fact now I'm really grateful for it because I have the ability to connect with people to educate and inspire them.
"I never saw the good in life because I was so unhappy and I nearly ended my life over it.
"But you need to have personally experienced those dark moments to see how to come out the other side of it and help others to do the same.
"I can't turn back the clock, but I'm a completely different person now and I have learnt so much throughout my journey.
"I'll never go back to being 400lb - I'm living proof that change is possible."
