Pyrocumulonimbus clouds have been forming over the area where the Bootleg Fire is burning in Oregon. This type of cloud forms above a source of heat and can create dangerous weather that has the potential to produce lightning and tornadoes, thereby exacerbating the fire underneath it.
The Bootleg Fire is the biggest of several wildfires burning in the western US amid an ongoing drought there.
