Flooding inundated at least 10 districts of Bihar in India on Thursday (15 July), forcing many families to flee by boat.

Footage shot in Dharbhanga showed people leaving their homes to move to safer places, including elevated ground like state and national highways.

The area has been hit with excessive rainfall early in the monsoon, causing premature flooding.

Bihar is in northeastern India, bordering Nepal.

Flooding has also hit other parts of India, including Mumbai, and countries as far apart as Germany and Arizona, USA.

Scientists say that extreme weather events have been made more likely by climate change.
