The world's most premature baby who was born at 21 weeks and two days has defied the odds to reach his first birthday and learn to crawl.

Richard Hutchinson was born 131 days premature and weighed only 340g - less than 12oz - breaking a record that stood for three-and-a-half decades.

Weighing less than a can of Pepsi, his hand was the size of his mother’s fingertip, his eyes were fused shut, his blood vessels were visible through his skin.

But after six months in hospital, the little fighter was able to finally go home with proud parents Beth and Rick Hutchinson, 36 and 40.

And on reaching his first birthday he was Guinness Book of World Records declared Richard the most prematurely born baby to survive.

Now he's starting to crawl and is thriving at home in Somerset, Wisconsin, USA.

Beth said: "I still don’t believe it; even though the certificate is in our living room, I still don’t believe it.

"He was so tiny he could fit in my husbands hand."

"Since we've been home its been non-stop. He has both of us wrapped around his finger.

"He's very silly, loves to play and goof around.

"I love being a mum. It's something I've always wanted to do and I'm the oldest of five kids, so I love kids and helped my sisters raise their kids.

"He does amazing developmentally and he’s basically on track - I think we got really lucky there."

On June 5 this year, the family-of-three celebrated his first birthday with cake and ice cream.

The clips within this video were filmed throughout June to August 2021.
