People react as Venezuela slash six zeroes from its inflation-battered currency in Caracas, Venezuela
This footage was filmed and produced 2 October 2021.
Venezuela suffered its third monetary reconversion so far this century. Six (0) were taken away from the national currency, the Bolivar, which has been suffering a hyper mega devaluation in the last few years. People in the capital city give their opinion on this fact.
Hello my name is Patrizia Ulloa. What I think about the reconversion is that it was simply done to streamline banking operations. For example, to make it easier for the cashier of a store when closing the amounts, because before with six more zeros the amounts were very large and now removing the six zeros is much easier. But nothing changes, we are still in the same crisis, there is no economic plan behind this reconversion, we continue earning the same, we continue spending the same, so for me it was done only to facilitate operations.
My name is Zoila Avila and I am Venezuelan, at this moment I live in Caracas, we are living today the first day of the third reconversion in Venezuela. In my opinion it is terrible especially for the common Venezuelan, because he/she is the one who suffers the consequences of this great devaluation that this country is suffering, now it is as if we were starting from zero, the value of the dollar continues to increase and the bolivar costs less and less every day.
My name is Gilberto Ulloa, and regarding the monetary reconversion I think it is important for the country, because the banking system, the companies in their accounting will be very important to lower those six zeros, I also believe that as the dollar is wreaking havoc in our country, we must try to strengthen our currency which is the Bolivar, I think that is very important, that is the priority, to give strength to the Bolivar so that in the future we can move forward.
Hello my name is Christian Marquez and I think that the monetary reconversion is a process that was necessary in order to speed up all the economic procedures because there was already too much devaluation and all the amounts were too high and had many zeros included and now the process will be more dynamic because it is done with low figures. In the country there was an expectation, people were a little anxious, they did not know what was going to happen if everything was going to work well but today the banks started to work, some still not, but in general everything is normal, 6 zeros were removed from the figures, if you had 10 million bolivars in the bank now you have 10 bolivars, yes there was a small devaluation yesterday, the bolivar cost 4 million and it woke up costing 5 bolivars, that is to say, it was devalued a million but everything else is normal.
