A dust devil tornado shocked shoppers as it whipped through the middle of a busy market in the Philippines.

Onlooker Min Min Deles Estimo captured the rare warm weather phenomenon as some motorists drove through it on November 3 in Libertad, Surallah, South Cotabato.

She said: ‘It started out big but gradually dissipated. I was surprised that some people were unbothered by the tornado when I was so nervous.’

Dust devils are a type of whirlwind tornado that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.

Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up, rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris making the spiral visible as it rises skywards.
