Thailand opens up to international tourists at Chiang Mai Festival of Lights
Chiang Mai in northern Thailand has welcomed its first tourists since the country opened up, with its unique Yee Peng festival.
Thailand opened to tourists from a long list of nations, on November 1st.
In Chiang Mai, festivities have begun early for the festival of lights that is celebrated in northern Thailand.
The Yee Peng festival occurs on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, which this year is November 19th.
There are lanterns on display throughout the city, on the river and in its moat. The festival also includes the floating of 'kratongs' into waterways.
