Dennis Bunnik embarked on a tour around the largest Australian plane parking lot populated by aircraft to be grounded due to the lack of air travel in the country.

Located in Alice Springs, Dennis took to a helicopter to get a feeling of the sheer number of aircraft left in the desert until they are called upon to go back into service.

Approximately 140 aircraft from various Asian airlines are stored at the facility and are perfectly parked up due to the pandemic limiting the number of vehicles leaving and entering the country.

These prime, modern aircraft are due to go back into work once borders begin to open up and the number of flights increases but for now, they sit in the dust and sand.

Dennis said: "Most of these aircraft will return to the skies once covid border restrictions are removed and air travel demand returns to pre-pandemic levels.

"Covid has decimated the global tourism and travel industry and these aircraft, just like the empty airports, closed travel agencies and the empty desks at our office are the visual sign of that.

"Each aircraft represents thousands of new jobs and a step towards bringing the world closer together."

This footage was filmed on October 17.
