Crowds calling for the release of death row inmate Julius Jones gathered across the street from the home of Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitt on Wednesday (18/11) in a last ditch attempt to get the politician to to grant clemency to the death-row inmate.

Crowds are seen standing in solidarity and saying the lord's prayer as riot police begin to mobilise.

Over six million people have signed a petition to spare the life of Jones, who is scheduled to be executed this week for the murder of Paul Howell.

Twitter user @xethalon filmed and shared the footage

Jones was a 19-year-old student at the University of Oklahoma when he was considered the prime suspect in the killing of the 45-year-old businessman.

In 2002, he was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death at just 22 years old.

He has spent decades proclaiming his innocence.
