Fire service personnel gathered outside Weymouth Fire Station in Dorset as the hearse with former Chief Fire Officer Darran Gunter made its way past on the way to Weymouth crematorium.

Gunter was the first Chief Fire Officer of the combined Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, having previously served in Gwent, the West Midlands, Devon and Dorset services, together with a period working at the Fire Service College. He retired in November 2016.

He died in October, aged 55.

CFO Ben Ansell said: “Darran worked tirelessly to achieve the combination of Dorset and Wiltshire fire and rescue services and had the honour of being our first Chief Fire Officer."
