A flash flood hit a Thai island after heavy rain and storms.

Riverbanks in low-lying areas in Ko Phangan island overflowed before flooding homes in Surat Thani province, southern Thailand on November 23.

More than 120 households have reportedly been affected. Video shows the waist-deep flood gushing houses and roads on the holiday island.

Surat Thani province governor Wichawut Jinto has ordered local authorities to alert residents in risky areas to beware of flash floods and rainstorms following the bad weather.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are nearing the end of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which last until late November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

Many of the under-developed nations struggle to cope with the heavy rain due to under-investment infrastructure.
