Thousands of protesters swarmed a regional police department in Kazakhstan in the early hours of this morning (January 5) as unrest over fuel prices continued despite government concessions.

Footage showed the tense scene outside Mangystau Police Department.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev accepted the government's resignation on Wednesday after a fuel price increase in the oil-producing Central Asian country triggered protests in which nearly 100 police were injured.

This footage was filmed and produced 5 January 2022.

Protests continued throughout the country at night. Despite the government's concessions, there were only more protesters on the streets. The security forces used stun grenades and tear gas, which angered even more people. They openly began attacking law enforcement agencies and special equipment.
